Advanced Periodontics have now made managing oral bacteria associated with periodontal disease (periodontitis and gingivitis) more effective with a prescribed solution placed over your teeth.
We use advanced technology to determine a patient's genetic potential for periodontal infections -- through oral DNA analysis.
Individual screening enables the dentist to establish early those patients who are at greater risk for severe periodontal disease.
Our practice can also identify specific perio-pathogenic bacteria and their concentration to assess risks and help establish treatment schedules personalized for each patient. We also screen saliva samples and/or oral lesions for signs of viral infections such as HPV that could lead to oral cancer.
Dr. Adams was one of the first dentists in Houston to be trained and licensed to perform Laser Periodontal TherapyTM.
We can now offer patients a laser gum treatment which greatly reduces any pain that might be associated with gum surgery.
The PerioLase® is a remarkable device that allows the doctor to insert a micro-thin laser fiber between gum tissues and teeth to remove bacterial elements which cause gum disease. And since your gums are not cut, there is no bleeding, or risk of infection -- thus healing time is improved.
If you suffer from constant headaches, jaw muscle spasms, an aching neck, facial pains, ringing, pain in the jaw, a popping sound during jaw movements, or ear pain, you may be experiencing Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, or TMJ. In some cases pain might be so severe that it interferes with normal, everyday movement.
Gelb MORA (Splint)
Since dentists are very familiar with anatomy of tissues, bones and muscle in and around the jaw area, they are especially qualified to examine, diagnose and treat TMJ. If you feel unusual discomfort while eating, speaking, chewing, or yawning, it could indicate TMJ. Dr. Adams can determine the cause and if treatment is needed, he can prescribe a MORA, a simple and effective oral appliance.
The MORA (Mandibular Orthopedic Repositioning Appliance) is designed from a clear acrylic with special pads that cover the bicuspids and molars, connected by a metal bar. The appliance works by correctly repositioning the patient's lower jaw to achieve neuromuscular balance in the temporomandibular (jaw) joints which connect the skull and lower jawbone.
